Laudate is a mixed voice four part choir, open to singers who sing a wide range of "quality" music from Tallis to Tavener and a multiplicity of other composers including Byrd, Batten, Gibbons, Ireland, Howells, Brewer, Bertalot, Stopford, Stanford and Vaughan-Williams to name but a few. The choir is rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7.45pm to 9.15pm in Room 73 (Music Dept) at Humphrey Davy School in Penzance.
Singers are drawn from the Lands End to Truro and Falmouth areas, but anyone who wishes to travel further than that would be equally welcome.
Laudate undertakes a variety of engagements, including services, concerts and recitals. A healthy social life is a feature of the choir, encouraging members to mix together over a glass of singing tonic from time to time and enjoying the company of others who share the same common interest - a love of good music making. In 2014, the choir undertook a short four day tour to southern Brittany and a return visit is planned in October 2016. The choir has also performed on a number of occasions in Truro Cathedral, Bath Abbey and Exeter Cathedral and has been broadcast on BBC 1 TV, BBC Radio Cornwall, Penwith Radio and Classic FM.
Whilst the choir specialises in church music, we also undertake concerts where the repertoire is slightly broader, perhaps including the occasional madrigal, part song or other concert piece for good measure. Variety is the spice of life!
